Studio 2 🎀

Problem Identification

In this studio, your team and yourself are to present a clear understanding about your allocated district. Problem(s) of the district and key concern(s) of the various stakeholders within the teams should be highlighted. The presentation will be 10 minutes for each team, with another 10 minutes of feedback.

Submission Guide

Deadline: Friday 12:00 pm, 16th February 2024 (Note: Late submissions will not be accepted).

You must submit your presentation slides to Canvas. Please name your file name in this standard format: "TX, GY", with "X" being your tutorial group number and "Y" being your team number.

Learning Objectives 🎯

  • Understand the current approaches that Singapore is taking to address issues about sustainable environment
  • Understand that national- or urban-level directions, agendas and programmes affect the city at the lower levels of organisation, such as the district-level
  • Understand how the nature of the problem a district or a city faces involves multiple stakeholders and urban systems

  • Conduct site vists to understand the allocated district
  • Conduct SWOT analysis in the perspective of different stakeholders within the team
  • Craft a problem statement/research question
  • Identify key concern(s) of different stakeholders to be the focus of the studio project

Deliverables πŸ“‚

Discussion about Singapore case study:

  1. Seminar topic to be chosen from among any of the seminar weeks’ topics
  2. Describe and explain current approaches adopted by Singapore to address the issues found within the topic
  3. Give your views on the strengths and limitations of these approaches

Discussion about problems of allocated district:

  1. Identify a problem statement for the allocated district/a specific area in the district: problem statement should relate to the discussion about Singapore by analysing how Singapore’s approaches have been implemented in the allocated district/a specific area in the allocated district and how they can improve
  2. Justify this identification of the problem statement with supporting evidence from site analysis and secondary research, including the use of 1 type of InVEST model of the choice of the team
  3. Conduct a SWOT analysis of the district on the problem statement (i.e. what are the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats possessed/faced by the district in being able to address the problem statement?)
  4. Discuss how relevant stakeholders are being affected by the problem

The deliverables are to be synthesised into a 10-minute presentation to be given by each of the teams.
